Bone Slotted Compensating Nut

Material
This nut is made from high density
Ox bone.

Dimensions
Any shape is possible for us to make we are only limited by the size of the raw material we use.

To specify a nut, you will need to provide
1. Length across fretboard (eg 52mm)
2. Width (eg 5mm)
3. Height in middle (string slots are cut into this height)
4. String E to e centre distance. and whether strings are spaced with even gaps between string edges (common for acoustics) or even gaps between centres
5. Details of the overhang required

What A Compensating Guitar Nut Does
By changing the string length a compensating nut is able to improve the guitar note accuracy which results in better harmonies. Generally fretted notes play a bit sharper than the ideal pitch mainly because of the fact that a fretted string is stretched a little by the very act of fretting it. By shortening the unfretted string using the overhang of the compensating nut, the open string will require a little less tension for it to be tuned to correct pitch - and this reduction in tension will lower the pitch of all the notes from that string, which will offset the pitch increase effect from string stretching.

Quality Control in the Manufacture
These items are hand made by myself in a workshop set up for the production of guitar parts and tooling. I use high precision measurement and a variety of shaping techniques commonly used in high precision engineering. I have a long history of making guitar parts encompassing design from first principles, performance analysis, acoustic analysis and manufacture quality control. I play guitar where - over many years - I have learnt to appreciate and understand the finer points of guitar parts design, performance and set-up from a players point of view.
